The Objective Eye

"Every movement that seeks to enslave a country, every dictatorship or potential dictatorship, needs some minority group as a scapegoat which it can blame for the nation's troubles and use as a justification of its own demand for dictatorial powers. In Soviet Russia, the scapegoat was the bourgeoisie; in Nazi Germany, it was the Jewish people; in America, it is the businessmen."
- Ayn Rand, "America's Persecuted Minority: Big Business" (1961)

Here is what I don't understand [about ecos' concerns about oil/environment]: If Norway, clean and 'green' country, provides its own energy needs by means of off-shore drilling--adjacent to the fjords, one of Norway's national treasures--and they export oil to other countries, don't you suppose they would have opted to protect the environment and eschewed the drilling for the sake of protecting fragile ecosystems? Why can't the government float this comparison to its citizenry?
