The Objective Eye

"Every movement that seeks to enslave a country, every dictatorship or potential dictatorship, needs some minority group as a scapegoat which it can blame for the nation's troubles and use as a justification of its own demand for dictatorial powers. In Soviet Russia, the scapegoat was the bourgeoisie; in Nazi Germany, it was the Jewish people; in America, it is the businessmen."
- Ayn Rand, "America's Persecuted Minority: Big Business" (1961)

Notes on the Week of Jan. 21-26

Now Playing: "I Can Hold Your Hand Baby" from the disc Los Angeles by The Brilliant Green - another fave pop/rock band from Japan

I. The 2007 State Of The Union address - The annual exercise in Political Theater was once again presented on the 23rd, and never in recent memory has it so thoroughly excelled in its theatrical avoidance of substance. If one can give Bush credit for anything, it's for reminding the collection of corrupt buffoons before him of their own commitment they're presently struggling to betray right along with American national security:

"This is not the fight we entered in Iraq, but it is the fight we are in... And whatever you voted for, you did not vote for failure."

Those are excellent points, though one wishes in vain that the President possessed the backbone to have ridiculed them openly, as they did him in last year's address after he rightly chastised them for pig-headed opposition to Social "Security" reforms. For the Demo-Socialist Party and, shamefully, a number of "Republicans," are most assuredly working with no hesitation, nor presumably conscience, on public announcements of their intent to surrender in Iraq.

Bush also paid lip service to "spending discipline," though not even he can alter his own shameful refusal, to date, to use the Presidential veto even once against any of Congress' spending orgies. He made a statement in favor of nuclear power, though one would be hard-pressed to uncover any specific initiative to eliminate the eco-fascists' roadblocks to expanding our nuclear capacity. He also reiterated a wish to "step up domestic oil production," but again offered no specific proposals to remove legislative roadblocks to oil corporations' ability to do this. Meanwhile, he showed no reluctance in urging a new "mandatory Fuels Standard" for imposition on American automakers.

The rest of the speech was considerably lower on the downside: references to "achiev[ing] big things for the American people" and "help[ing] them to build a better future," along with "commitements of conscience" to "fix Medicare and Medicaid - and save Social Security" because "it is our duty to keep them permanently sound."

I'm a little puzzled by all of that, because I have my trusty copy of the United States Constitution right here, and I'm just not finding any references to any of that retro-socialist/Ponzi rot being authorized for any branch of government.

As for the neo-fascists who've apparently taken over the Democrat Party, their behavior is, as I've posted previously, to be expected. It was mildly entertaining, however, to watch the expressions and mannerisms of Pelosi in the background. Particularly revelatory were her contrasting behaviors when the President did his intellectual-schizophrenia thing on the issue of education:

She remained rooted to her chair, visibly bristling, when Bush mentioned "...giving families with children stuck in failing schools the right to choose something better," then jumped to her feet like a bubbleheaded cheerleader when he continued with "We must increase funds for students who struggle..." [N.B.: In all usage within sports and politics, all variants of the verb "to struggle" translate loosely as "to suck."]

On the whole, another yawner and another indicator of the President's permanent intellectual confusion and of Congress' endless corruption.

II. Los Angeles Mayor Viva-la-raza's Reversion to Childhood - At a highly-publicized appearance before the National Press Club luncheon in D.C. on Wednesday the 24th, LA Mayor and MEChA enthusiast Antonio Villaraigosa set forth his "new education plan," which he summed up with "Imagine if every student...had a bank account with a balance in it."

Keep in mind here that this is the mayor of America's second-largest city.

Umm, Dear Mayor Villaraigosa:

There is a rather large question implied by your "plan." Care to hazard a guess as to what it is? Hint: "Imagine...if money grew on trees."

Sincerely not yours,
T.O.E.

Astonishing, isn't it? Education crisis, indeed. To Southern California residents, I recommend contacting Villaraigosa's office with some reminders on the continued nonexistence of Santa and the Tooth Fairy, or better yet, to donate your economics texts for his belated enlightenment, here.

III. Resources against the D.C. Surrender Brigade - As posted Friday, the entire Democrat-Socialist Party in Congress, along with a contemptible herd of RINOs from the other side of the aisle, have drafted a handful of "nonbinding resolutions" expressing opposition to the same Iraq war the vast majority of them voted for a matter of months ago. Apparently the long-term security of America, its people and the entirety of Western Civilization mean less to these clowns than their continued welcome at upscale D.C. wine-and-cheese soirées hosted by the leftwing "in" crowd. (Why does contemplation of D.C. politicians grow increasingly similar to watching horny-teenager movies? But I digress.)

That "most useful man" of talk radio, Hugh Hewitt, has posted some timely contacts for those who believe in the "active" part of the term "activism." I recommend using them heavily over the next few days:

"The Activism Agenda:

Please tell the candidates in the ’08 cycle especially – Alexander, Collins, Coleman and Smith and would be presidential nominees McCain and Brownback — that a vote for the Warner resolution is the end of support for them and the NRSC.

Senator Alexander’s phone: (202) 224-4944. His e-mail form is here;

Senator Brownback’s phone: (202) 224-6521. His e-mail form is here;

Senator Coleman’s phone: (202) 224-5641.His e-mail form is here;

Senator Collins’ phone: (202) 224-2523. Her e-mail form is here;

Senator McCain's phone: (202) 224-2235. His campaign e-mail form is here;

Senator Smith’s phone: (202) 224-3753. His e-mail form is here;

Senator Voinovich's phone: (202) 224-3353. His e-mail form is here;

The GOP leadership, which need to announce that no resolution will voted on that encourages the enemy, and that includes the Warner resolution or any cousin of the Warner resolution:

Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s phone is (202) 224-2541. His e-mail form is here;

Minority Whip Trent Lott’s phone is (202) 224-6253. His e-mail form is here;

Senator Jon Kyl’s phone is (202) 224-4521. His e-mail form is here;

Senator John Ensign’s phone is (202) 224-6244. His e-mail form is here;

Second, please consider at least a small donation to the re-election campaign of Texas Senator John Cornyn at JohnCornyn.com as a positive expression of support for a senator who is conducting himself as a Reagan Republican ought to."
